Our History
The Arnés Tower/Torre Arnés was remodeled in the 19th century on the ruins century building of which the vaulted cellars and wine vats still survive. Dona Arnés, who gives her name to the building was a lady great nobility and beauty, who had an illicit admirer Sr Lasierra, no more than a commoner. On marrying a noble man of her own class, her admirer takes off for Madrid where he studies and finds his way into politics. Within a few years he achieves a place in the Madrid courts as a member of the parliament. Some years later he receives news that Dona Arnés has become a widow and so returns to Graus immediately to ask for her hand in marriage.
With his new position and power he becomes an acceptable choice for the family and the marriage takes place.
The story with a happy ending leads to the couple taking up residence in the home of Dona Arnés in Calle Barranco in the centre of Graus ( Casa Arnés ).
This Tower, Torre Arnés situated a 2 km. from Graus was remodeled as sign of their love the style of the times. Many years later the tower was almost lost as it became the barracks of the Republican army in the Spanisch Civil war, with the cellars and the wine vats used for hiding.
Following the war it went into further decline being used for farm animals and storring hay, however today at the dawn of the 21th Century it has regained its previus splendor.
Its presents owners, Angel Morales Del Valle and Reiner Eduard Huber, two entrepreneurs from the Balearic Islands have committed themselves to the total restauration of the property with aim of giving it new life as a Boutique Hotel. At the moment the Restaurant and some Rooms are open to the public, and in the near future they hope no complete the remaining Rooms.
